Maths – KS4
At The Hollies, students follow a five year scheme of work that prepares them for the challenges of the new GCSE syllabus and Functional Skills qualifications. Most students will also be entered for the Entry Level Certificate in Maths (ELC) to ensure examination success. The aim of our maths teaching is to develop a culture of engagement and confidence that enables every student to make excellent progress throughout their time at the school. Core to our beliefs is that every young person can succeed in maths and develop into independent learners, ready for the next step of their education.
The subject is taught in mixed ability classes for each year, with extra provision available for students who benefit from one-to-one support or working in smaller groups. The school currently uses the AQA exam board for both GCSE and Functional Skills assessments. More information on the content of the GCSE and Functional Skills courses can be found on the AQA website at http://www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/mathematics
